Happy race week, JMTR Runners!
For those who are local, you are aware of the rain, snow, hail, and wind we've gotten over the last few days and will continue to get this week. While there is some drying toward the weekend, being in the mountains, the forecast is quick to change so we ask that you are prepared for anything as you pack your kits, running packs, and plan to travel to Los Alamos. Our mandatory gear policy can be found in our Runner’s Manual.
Remember, we will be implementing a mandatory gear policy if the weather forecast on Saturday has a chance of putting runners at risk for being caught in cold and wet weather. Should we implement the mandatory gear policy, all 50k and 50 mile runners will be required to go through a mandatory gear check when checking-in for the race Saturday morning. Runner will either need to leave the start line with their gear or place it in their Ski Lodge aid station drop bag (dependent on when storms may hit--we will let you know before race start).
As of today, 5/7/2025, the weather forecast for Saturday is as follows:
Saturday forecast for Posse Lodge (race start): low temp = 45°F, high temp = 60-65°F. A chance of showers and thundershowers/lightning, between noon and 5 pm. Cloudy. Not heavy rain (<0.05 inches over 5 hours). Light winds (5-10 mph).
Saturday forecast for 9400 ft (about Pajarito Mountain Lodge, 50k and 50 mile will reach about 10,400 ft): low temp = 36°F, high temp = 50-55°F. Chance of rain & thundershowers/lightning, between noon and 5 pm. Cloudy. Moderate rain. (0.10 inches over 5 hours) Light winds (5-10 mph).
We want to give every one of you the best chance at finishing your race Saturday and being as safe as you can while you get out there and crush your goals.
So stoked to see all of you in a few short days!
The JMTR Team
